Mr. Gibbs: Hi, everyone.
It's Wednesday, January 5th, and welcome to First Question.
We've gotten a lot of questions on me today,
so let's just go through a couple of these answers:
Why are you leaving and what are you going to do?
I am announcing today I'm taking a step back and recharging a
little bit from the hectic pace of the job that I've had the
honor and privilege of doing here for --
now, almost two years.
And -- of working for this president and serving our country.
It is an experience and an opportunity of a lifetime and
it's something that I will be forever grateful for.
What I'm going to do next, as I said, is take some time off,
recharge, give some speeches, and continue to provide advice
and counsel to this White House under this president.
Some of you may also wonder if what we've done recently with
First Question, be it on these videos or on the computer
itself, if we'll be continuing that past me --
will @PressSec continue past me?
And I can certainly say that none of these tools were
developed for me -- they were developed for you.
So, our Twitter feeds -- the Twitter account of the Press
Secretary and things like First Question will extend and
continue well beyond my tenure here at the White House,
because we've learned over many years that it's important,
through social media and social networking,
to continue the dialogue that we've had and to bring you,
the citizens of this country, closer into the goings on and
the decisions that your government are making.
So thanks.
