Greenpeace activists from Hungary, Poland, Slovekia, Austria and Romania
put up their tents today in front of the Prime Minister's office in Budapest.
They wanted to draw attention to the fact that Hungary still hasn't started the
operation of its green investment scheme which is supposed to serve as a means
to use the emission's quota income for energy efficiency and renewables.
The scheme should have started eigth months ago when Hungary sold
its emmision's quotas to Belgium and Spain last year.
In order to avoid catastrophic climate change, world leaders in Copenhagen
have to come up with a strong and legally biding agreement that makes sure
we keep global average temperatures under two degrees.
If the EU is to keep its lead role in the fight against climate change,
all countries, including Hungary needs to support renewables and energy efficiency
and the GIS is one of the most important means for that.
