Thirteen children were injured Sunday after a festival swing ride malfunctioned and sent
riders crashing into the ground, the ride and each other.
"When they swung around from the impact it slammed them into the center of the ride,
and it was just injured kids everywhere, the parents ripping out the gate just trying to
get to their kids. It was horrible." (Via News 12 Connecticut)
The accident occurred at the Norwalk Oyster Festival in Connecticut. Investigators say
the ride lost power, causing the swings to crash. Some children fell between 10 and 15
feet to the ground. (Via WABC)
"We heard what sounded like a loud *** from here, and it just got deathly quiet. And we
saw a lot of people just walking towards the area and then police, EMS, they just started
filling the area." (Via WVIT)
Initial reports said two children had serious injuries. Thirteen children in all were injured.
According to the festival organizer, state officials inspected the ride last Friday and
deemed it safe. (Via Fox News)
The incident led organizers to shut down the ride area temporarily. The state police fire
and explosion unit is starting an investigation over the cause of the malfunction.
