With the shift towards personalization and real time accessibility of news, how is the publishing industry
staying relevant?
Well, I think looking at the future news organizations will increasingly have to
rely on
software algorithms
to depict readers content preferences
and that's all about things like personalization on mobile devices, I mean, we offer
readers at the telegraph
a way of personalizing the news on their handset for example
I think that in conjunction with social networking platforms that we are all still kick in
but it we all at the earliest stage of yet first
mobile commerce will help aim us too, I think user experience is
very much key
we need to be
where those readers are and giving them
particular contents which is relevant to them
What's next wave of commercial opportunities for the Telegraph and
supporting businesses?
Well, I think from my point of view we have we have launched a number of
products through subscriptions and
we've bundles certain for example mobile products with subscriptions of
of our newspapers
so we obsess about loyalty at the Telegraph
Nearly sixty percent of people who buy the Telegraph are seven-day a week
subscribers
So, we'd like to bundle extra value into those readers constantly with things
like iPad Apps or iPhone Apps et cetera.
What we are looking at I think for the future and I think the industry is
looking at is new ad formats
looking at new technologies such as augmentive reality, mobile commerce
et cetera
Looking at more rich media apps and certainly we'll see a lot more video as time comes
What do you think people are willing to pay for going forward?
Well, I think it depends on the product offering, I think some maybe ad
supported and face the consumer therefore and some will be paid for experiences
I think one thing's for sure people value of content and they value
it more and it's paid for, for example our iPad experience
and future value I think again comes back content plus platforms plus
audience,the new generations
are more accepting of things like sponsorship then previous ones
if it's done sensitively and emphatically,
