Today we’re going to be talk about the difference between the juvenile court and the juvenile
traffic and minor defense court. My name is Ryan McGlinn. I’m a criminal defense attorney
in San Diego, California who handles juvenile law. The main difference between the juvenile
court and the juvenile traffic and minor defense court, are the types of cases that are handled
between the two of them. The juvenile traffic and minor defense court typically deals with
very minor offenses, such as curfew violations, loitering, or very minor drug and alcohol
possession cases. The juvenile court deals with more misdemeanor and felony violations
of the law. The second main difference between the juvenile traffic court and the juvenile
court are the lawyers involved in that court process. Oftentimes in the juvenile traffic
court, when a parent arrives with their child an attorney will not be there to immediately
consult with them. An attorney can be requested at some point, however initially you don’t
have the ability to consult with an attorney to make you familiar with how the process
works. In the juvenile court, when you deal with more serious misdemeanor and felony cases
you will have either a public defender or a private attorney there working with you.
And there will also be a district attorney involved in prosecuting the case. The other
main difference between the juvenile traffic court and the juvenile court are the way cases
are handled. Typically, in the juvenile traffic and minor defense court cases are resolved
in by a fine, community services, or some type of diversion type program where kids
are told to do a class or rehabilitation program (such as a drug and alcohol class or a theft
class) and that is how the case is ultimately resolved. In the juvenile court, your child
can face far more serious consequences. The consequences can range anywhere from probation
or jail. Why am I telling you this? Because you have questions. You have questions that
need to be answered. I do this every day and I can answer your questions. Call my office
