There are different models of cars for literally every type of consumer.
The young, hip crowd; the soccer moms,
the speed-seeking millionaires, and now,
enviornmentalists with a deep pocket.
The scientists at Mercedes have been working on a new type of body
which will blend raw speed with energetic efficiency.
This is the new AMG electric platform,
scheduled to come out in 2015.
According to Mercedes,
the motors are positioned near the wheels and are connected
to one transmission per axle.
This unique setup effectively gives the SLS AMG e-drive,
an intelligent all-wheel drive system,
which optimizes the power to each individual wheel.
The car's sleek lithium ion battery is charged with a plug attached to a wall socket.
The zero emissions car will boast a 526 horsepower engine,
and after accelerating to a high speed,
the car can also generate power from braking.
Mercedes is appealing to a broader audience
while finding new ways to deliver high-performance vehicles
that do not run on gasoline.
By offering an electric luxury vehicle,
Mercedes is making energy efficiency more fashionable.
Hey, maybe we'll soon see Nascar using electric vehicles.
