Shaykh Muhammad al-Musawi
Lying against a Sunni Shaykh
Al-Musawi: This matter can be found in their (Sunni) books.
And now I will relate to you, oh Doctor, an incident that happened to me,
in the “Worlds Religion Parliament.”
This is a conference that happened back in the year of 99…
The year of 1999, in the 12th month.
It was…
Al-Hashimi: Where was it? Which country?
Al-Musawi: In Cape Town,
The city of Cape Town, in South Africa.
Al-Hashimi: Ok.
Al-Musawi: There was amongst those present an Islamic leader …
Or a president of an international Islamic organization based out of a very large Arab country.
This organization is on the Salafi “line”
So when my turn was over to speak in the conference
This man came to me, shook my hand and greeted me
So I said, “O… O so-and-so,
You make takfir of me.”
He said, “How do I make takfir of you?”
I said, “You and your organization published a book…”
I have this book.
“…which states the Islamic groups and it mentions the ***`a Imamiyyah,
it mentions that they are kafirs.”
So I said, “You make takfir of me while you see me praying.”
And he prayed with me,
When we lined up for prayer,
He prayed my prayer as well.
So he made takfir of me in that book before he even saw me.
So he said, “No I don’t make takfir of you and I am sorry for that book
And I will…”
Then he said, “I actually didn’t even write this book
and it was written by a group of scholars that are part of our organization
So I am going to tell them to have a second look in regards to the next publishing.”
Therefore, this issue of takfir is not a made-up issue…
Khamis: Either way…
The Shaykh mentioned a little earlier that there is someone who wrote a book making takfir of the 12er ***`as
Then he said he didn’t write it
And he said, “The book was ghost written for me.”
I’d like to know: who is this shaykh and which book is it?
Al-Musawi: Either way…
Al-Hashimi: It may be that our brothers…
Al-Khamis: Who is the shaykh and which book is it?
It’s a clear question.
He said that the shaykh wrote and made takfir of the 12ers
Then he said…
“It was ghost-written for me by my shaykhs,
and they attributed to me.”
Al-Musawi: I don’t know… I do not want to mention the Shaykh’s name…
Even if I wanted to remember his name...
However, this man has responsibility in a very large Arab country,
and I do not want to embarrass
I will give you this name after…
Al-Khamis: This does not work.
The people are listening...
no problem.
Al-Musawi: You want the book?
Al-Khamis: Yes, the book and the shaykh.
Al-Musawi: The book is: “Encyclopedia of Sects and Madhhabs.”
Al-Khamis: He did not make takfir of the 12ers in the “Encyclopedia.”
Al-Musawi: Either way, if you were to read it really well, then you would know…
Al-Khamis: You said he made takfir of them and he did not make takfir of the 12ers.
Al-Musawi: You did not read what he wrote in regards to the ***`a
He is a man who admitted that and he apologized for it, and he said that it was written by a group of shaykhs.
Al-Hashimi: In regards to the encyclopedias of sects and madhhabs, insha’Allah
bring al-Baghdadi and he does not make takfir of the 12er ***'as.
Al-Khamis: Either way, either way.
Al-Khamis: I do not know taqiyyah [lying about your religion]
I say the only issue we agree with them on is that they are Muslims,
we do not make takfir of them,
We believe we are all Muslims.
This is the Encyclopedia of which he spoke about yesterday.
And he said, “They made takfir of us in the Encyclopedia.”
Here is a copy of the “Encyclopedia” they faxed to me.
He says here, “The ***`a 12er Imamiyyah
***`a 12er Imamiyyah is that sect from amongst the Muslims
who claimed that Ali is who rightfully should’ve inherited the Caliphate
instead of the Two Shaikhs [Abu Bakr and Omar] and Othman, may Allah be pleased with all of them.
And they were termed as Imamiyyah because they made the Imamate the fundamental issue.”
Where is the takfir of them?
He said…
Al-Musawi: Finish, finish.
Al-Khamis: I’ll finish.
“They were termed as 12ers because they believe in 12 Imams
of which the last of them went into occultation based on their claims.
They are the group which opposes the Sunnis in their way of thinking and all their opinions are unique.
They try to spread their religion amongst the commoners.”
Then he said, “Establishing [takfir] is based on the individuals.”
Should I read the whole book?
Al-Musawi: No, that’s not all of it.
Al-Khamis: I read all of this part.
Therefore, when this here Shaykh said, “He made takfir of us in his book.”
Then when he went to him and said, “Why did you make takfir of us?”
He said, “No they forced this book upon me.”
Where is the takfir?
Al-Musawi: It is there.
Al-Khamis: In this book? You said, “He made takfir of us.”
And I always said the one thing that we have in common is that we do not make takfir of them.
This is a creed… with me.
Al-Khamis: This is why, “The Encyclopedia of Religions” which he mentioned and stated that they make takfir of the 12er ***`as
So we brought for him a copy of the book, and he does not make takfir of the ***`a 12er Imamiyyah…
Al-Musawi: You brought one page… Al-Khamis: …and we did not hear an answer.
Al-Musawi: …or maybe two pages.
Al-Khamis: You bring the page.
You bring the page you are the one claiming.
Al-Khamis: He says we want to the conversational mindset and we do not want the argumentative mindset:
Is the conversational mindset is when he refuses to bring forth any answers?
He claimed (against) “The Encyclopedia of Religions”
And when brought it to him, he stopped talking.
The Nasibis…
When we asked him about the Nasibis, are the Companions Nasibis or no?
And when we mentioned the statement of their scholars that they are Nasibis,
All of their scholars:
Al-Qomi
At-Tabrasi, in “Al-Ihtijaj”
At-Tabrasi, in “Al-Khitab”
Al-Kulayni, Al-Majlasi, al-Jaza’iri, al-Bayyadi,
He says they aren’t the majority!
These are the majority!
