This is financial adviser Patrick Munro, discussing the purpose of a living will. A living will
is a key document that every individual should have after they execute their primary will.
And what it does, it allows an individual to have their rights be withheld in the case
of hospitalization, and there's no possibility of bringing them back. A hospital can keep
you alive based upon the Hippocratic Oath that they have taken. And if the family has
mixed feelings as to what should be done. If you have several children, there is often
times a dispute as to what should be done. And you can override everything, and everyone
if you have it in writing. This was best demonstrated with case law with Terry Schiavo, a very famous
case that occurred down in Florida. The individual was kept alive for multitudes of years on
life support. And there was great drag to the State of Florida, but the attorney stepped
in, and ultimately it was decided that she should pass away through natural causes. Living
will is an important document. This is Patrick Munro, discussing living wills.
