Tom Anthony Parker: Hi, everyone.
Maximillan Alberto George: Hi, everyone.
Siva Kaneswaran: Hi, everyone.
Jay McGuiness: Hi, everyone.
Hi.
Hello.
Hello, everybody.
Tom Anthony Parker: So we are going to read you a little story.
What is it called, Jay?
Jay McGuiness: I have got the book if you can see it here.
It is called "Caps For Sale."
Before we start, I am going to tell you a word in the book
called "peddler."
If anyone doesn't know what a peddler means,
a peddler is a guy -- you know?
What is it?
Audience Member: (inaudible)
Jay McGuiness: Oh, ace stuff!
Tom Anthony Parker: Good.
Nice.
(applause)
Jay McGuiness: She said it is someone who sells something.
So when I say peddler, it is a guy trying to sell things.
In this case, caps.
Once there was a peddler who sold caps.
But he was not like any ordinary peddler.
Carrying his wares on his back.
He carried them on top of his head much like I am right now.
First, he had his own checked cap.
Then a bunch of gray caps, then a bunch of brown caps,
then a bunch of blue caps.
And on the very top, a bunch of red caps.
Tom Anthony Parker: I can't wait for this.
Siva Kaneswaran: He walked up and down the streets.
Holding himself very straight.
Jay McGuiness: I got you.
I got you.
Siva Kaneswaran: My mic is down.
One second.
(laughter)
Holding himself very straight, so as not to upset his caps,
as he went along, he called, "Caps! Caps for sale!
"50 cents a cap."
(inaudible)
(laughter)
Maximillan Alberto George: Thank you.
One morning he couldn't sell any caps.
He walked up the street and he walked down the street calling,
"Caps! Caps for sale!"
"50 cents a cap."
But nobody wanted any caps that morning.
Nobody even wanted a red cap.
It is a shame he didn't have yellow ones,
because everyone would have bought one.
He began to feel very, very hungry,
but he had no money for lunch.
"I think I'll go for a walk in the country," he said.
And he walked out of town slowly,
slowly so as not to upset his caps.
What a story.
Tom Anthony Parker: It is a long one.
He walked for a long time until he came to a great big tree.
"That's a nice place for a rest," thought he.
And he sat down very slowly, under the tree,
and leaned back little by little against the tree trunk so as not
to disturb the caps on his head.
Then he puts up his hands to feel if they were straight.
First, his own checked cap, then the gray caps,
then the brown caps, then the blue caps,
then the red caps on the very top.
Maximillan Alberto George: They were all there, so he went to sleep.
He slept for a long time.
(laughter)
Jay McGuiness: In case anyone is wondering, Nathan can't speak today.
He has got a sore throat.
Siva Kaneswaran: In case anyone is wondering, Nathan has got a sore voice
and can't read.
Tom Anthony Parker: The mind is not working.
Maximillan Alberto George: Nathan is not very well.
That is why he is silent.
Tom Anthony Parker: Awww.
Maximillan Alberto George: Back to the story.
Siva Kaneswaran: Okay.
Maximillan Alberto George: This is the best bit.
Siva Kaneswaran: When, is my mic on?
Jay McGuiness: I have got you.
Siva Kaneswaran: When he woke up after his sleep, he was refreshed and rested.
Jay McGuiness: You killed it!
Thank you.
But before standing up, he felt with his hand to make sure his
caps were in the right place.
And he felt just his own checked cap.
Curious.
Siva Kaneswaran: You read it wrong.
Jay McGuiness: Yeah.
Siva Kaneswaran: He looked to the right of him, no caps.
He looked to the left of him, no caps.
He looked, he looked in back of him, no caps.
He looked behind the tree, no caps.
Maximillan Alberto George: Well, he has looked everywhere so far.
(laughter)
But then he looked up into the tree.
And what do you think he saw?
Audience Member: The caps.
Jay McGuiness: Oh, you got it.
You're first.
What did you say?
Audience Member: Caps.
Maximillan Alberto George: No, birds.
Jay McGuiness: Oh, birds.
(laughter)
Maximillan Alberto George: Oh, no.
Not birds.
Not birds.
It is a special tree.
Tom Anthony Parker: On every branch, sat a monkey!
Maximillan Alberto George: Ah-ha.
Tom Anthony Parker: Whoa!
On every monkey was a gray or a brown or a blue or a red cap.
Maximillan Alberto George: Ahhh.
See you all stopped there me there.
The peddler looked at the monkeys.
The monkeys looked at the peddler.
He didn't know what to do.
Finally, he spoke to them.
And what did he say, Siva?
Siva Kaneswaran: I will tell you now.
Maximillan Alberto George: I can feel the suspense in the square.
Siva Kaneswaran: "You monkeys, you," he said, shaking a finger at them.
"You give me back my caps!"
But the monkeys only shook their fingers back at him and said --
Jay McGuiness: It is like a laugh.
"Psst, psst, psst, psst."
Siva Kaneswaran: "Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha."
(laughter)
Jay McGuiness: This made the peddler very angry.
So he shook both hands at them and said, "You monkeys, you!"
"You give me back my caps."
But the monkeys only shook both of their hands back at him and
said, "Psst, psst, psst, psst, ha ha, ha, ha."
Siva Kaneswaran: Now, he felt quite angry.
He stamped his foot and he said, "You monkeys, you!"
"You better give me back my caps."
But the monkeys only stamped their feet again back at him
and said, "Psst, psst, psst, psst, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha."
Maximillan Alberto George: Cheeky monkeys.
Tom Anthony Parker: Cheeky monkeys.
Siva Kaneswaran: Cheeky monkeys.
Maximillan Alberto George: By this time, the peddler was very, very angry.
And I am reading the same page again.
(laughter)
Jay McGuiness: That is one to you.
Maximillan Alberto George: Excuse me.
At last he became so angry that he --
(laughter)
I am terrible at this.
At last he became so angry --
(laughter)
Tom Anthony Parker: Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Jay McGuiness: Max has very bad eyes.
Maximillan Alberto George: I am sorry.
I need glasses.
I want your glasses.
Tom Anthony Parker: At last he became so angry that he took --
(laughter)
No.
Stop making me laugh.
He is making me laugh.
At last he became so angry that he took off his own cap,
threw it on the ground, and began to walk away.
"Arrhh!"
Maximillan Alberto George: "Rawr!"
But then, each monkey pulled off his cap.
Siva Kaneswaran: And all, he pulled off his cap.
They pulled off his cap and all of the gray caps,
and all of the brown caps, and all of the blue caps,
and all of the red caps came flying down out of the tree.
Maximillan Alberto George: Yes.
(laughter)
Jay McGuiness: So the peddler picked up his caps and put them back.
Siva Kaneswaran: So the peddler picked up his caps and put them back
on his head.
First, his own checked cap, then the gray caps,
then the brown caps, then the blue caps,
then the red caps on the very top.
Jay McGuiness: You got it.
Tom Anthony Parker: Keep reading, Siva.
Siva Kaneswaran: And slowly, slowly he walked back to the town calling,
"Caps! Caps for sale! 50 cents a cap."
Jay McGuiness: Then that, this.
Tom Anthony Parker: You missed a bit.
Siva Kaneswaran: The End.
Jay McGuiness: There we go.
Nathan James Sykes: Yeah.
(applause)
Siva Kaneswaran: I really hope you all enjoyed that one.
Tom Anthony Parker: Thank you.
Maximillan Alberto George: Thank you, everyone.
You are a fantastic audience.
Tom Anthony Parker: We are not the best readers.
I apologize.
Maximillan Alberto George: The sequel is much better.
(laughter)
Siva Kaneswaran: I hope you have a great day.
Bye, bye everyone!
