ANCHOR>> It is day six of Olympic competition, and it's a day that many hockey fans were
looking forward to. Team USA took on Team Canada in women's hockey, and Stacey Pensgen
watched the game with some anxious local fans. REPORTER>> Those who know hockey say this
morning's game could very well wind up being the gold medal game in women's hockey in Sochi.
So many eyes were tuned in this morning. That includes some members of the Division I RIT
women's hockey team. BRITTANY>> We actually had a plan today to come and watch it, a couple
of us, so we got up at 7:30 in the morning, me and my roommate and we watched the start
of it and then we came here and finished it off, so it was great. REPORTER>> The team
consists of 20 Canadians and 4 Americans, so you can imagine there is a lot riding on
the USA vs. Canada games. Off the ice their spirit may be divided, but once they're in
this room, they're all Tigers. MELISSA>> You can tell all week we've had this little rivalry
going around. Coach came in for video one day fully decked out in his Canadian gear,
and then our, what, 3 or 4 Americans were trying to compete with that, but we've got
a lot of Canadian pride here, so it's nice to see it. REPORTER>> Rivalry aside, the girls
came together to watch the game and a get a little extra motivation before they took
the ice for their own practice. MELISSA>> I know that there are a few that I've played
against, and a few that didn't make the team but were close, like one of the last cuts
and we still played against them this year, so it's cool seeing the competition and knowing
that maybe you could have done it, but they're such great players so it's really cool to
see and the sport is so great. REPORTER>> You can bet this team of North Americans hopes
to see another North American matchup for the gold medal game in Sochi 8 days from now.
In Henrietta, Stacey Pensgen, News 8. ANCHOR>> Spoiler alert, the Canadians won a tight game.
The RIT women take on number 9 Robert Morris this Friday. And the ladies are looking for
a "sweet" win of their own for Valentine's Day.
