Repairing a Vacuum Breaker on a Woodford Outdoor Wall Faucet.
Easily repair or replace a Vacuum Breaker on a Woodford Model 17, 19, or a 101 outdoor
wall faucet.
The only tools needed for this simple repair are Channel Locks and a Flat Head Screwdriver.
If water is leaking from under the brown cap, a simple repair may be possible.
If the leak is coming from between the brass head and the clear plastic body, tighten the
Vacuum Breaker down with Channel Locks.
To determine if this happens, take a flat-head screwdriver and pop the cap off, by prying
under the lower edge of the cap. Then tighten down the vacuum breaker body with your channel
locks. This should stop the vacuum breaker from continuing to leak.
Replacing a Vacuum Breaker on a Woodford Outdoor Wall Faucet.
If the leak doesn’t stop or is coming from the top area of the vacuum breaker body, then
replace the vacuum breaker with a vacuum breaker repair kit. The kit includes a new cap, body
and float.
First, unscrew the plastic body by using your channel locks and rotate counter-clockwise.
Then, pull out the float. Replace the old float with a new float. Take the new vacuum
breaker body piece and tighten down channel locks to create a tight fit by turning clockwise.
Finally, snap the new cap on the body piece and you're finished.
