Are you ready to add some belly accents to your belly work in belly dance? Hi, I'm Johanna,
and this is Karen, and we're here from Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio in St. Petersburg,
Florida, and we're going to work on our belly pull. Now this is used as an accent at the
end of a phrase, or at some key point in the music that you want to accent. So let's make
sure our feet are flat on the floor, facing straight ahead, right next to each other.
Press the heels down and bend the knees, pull the belly button in, lift the chest, shoulders
back and down, arms out and away from the body. Good. So now we're going to softly let
the belly out and pull it in nice and sharp. Soft out, and pull. Soft out, and pull. Soft
out--pull that belly button straight into your spine. You don't want to be moving your
body, so this is not a movement that involves any skeletal movement. It's purely muscular.
Out and in, out, in, soft out, sharp in, soft out, sharp in, soft out, sharp in, sharp out.
So listen to music and find that nice little pop where you want to pull your belly in.
It'll make a beautiful accent. Good job.
