hello I'm Buzz Moran welcome to our sound laboratory
all around us is the real world
and the real world makes real-world sounds
but let's find a way to recreate those sounds
doors in the real world can't be relied on to creak
when you need them to you therefore we have this device
a creak box we simply turn the wooden dowel
and get our creak sound
if you're going to have the sound of creaking you'll probably need
the sound of a door doors are the thing that creak the most
if we look inside we see a solid backing piece of wood
so much like an acoustic guitar it gives us a fuller sound
let's listen to this creaky old door
the yes doors truly are fantastic aren't they
but let's move on to sounds of weather like you might find in
nature what we have here is a device
called a wind machine it's been used for over a hundred years to make the sound
of wind
in operas and theater let's try it out shall we
let's move on from wind and go to
thunder this is what we call a
thunder tube shaking it produces a deep rumbling sound much like
Thunder
an impressive sound to be sure but sometimes you need an even bigger
Thunder sound and that's when we pull out the Thunder sheet
in the old days they used to use a large piece of tin
but now we can use the miracle of plastics
let's hear what this poly-carbonate does
it's frightening now to complete our storm of
wind and thunder let's add a little rain
for this we'll use a standard sheet
aluminum foil thank you we'll hold it
lightly in our hands and start to tap
little drops of rain on the bottom the rain is really starting to come down
the wind is picking up don't like the sound of that
thunder it's raining cats and dogs
