David: We are very grateful that you are here because it means that you care about the others and you are really interested in new projects.
Projects that can change the world and can change lives of course
You know, nowadays we live very comfortable,
fortunately we have water, food, we have electricity, technology. I was very pleased with my life, I mean,
I´m from Colombia and it doesn´t mean that I´m very different from you, because we also have access to many different technologies
and nowadays the globalization allow us to use many of these kind of technology and stuff that all we use together... (Video cut: But not everyone can afford or have access) .
So well, how can I help to change this world? you know, I need to do something physical, something that I can put my hands
and because I don´t have much money... Can I do much stuff to help?
It has to be one way,
so is very important that we start to think to help others because however we are from there or from there ,
people from all countries, you know... China, Japan, (All countries) in Latin America, every country, We live in the same place!
We live in the same bubble: The Planet Earth! And we are together, so we need to help each other.
This is the presentation about and Let’s see how a bottle of..
Can I take your bottle? let´s see how this plastic of a drink can bring light to homes
and how can change lives. ok? So, I let you with Alejandro,
Alejandro: Thank you very much David, Hello everybody, thank you very much for coming.
First of all I would like to tell you something about me, who I am... Well, my name is Alejandro Clavijo, I´m Colombian.
Two years ago I got my degree as engineer I started to work for a company, for a factory,
and I was working there for 8 months and was a really good experience however I realize that I couldn´t be happy with that kind of life,
I mean, just working, sleeping, working, sleeping, but doing nothing for people, anything that was not the kind of life that I would like to have
So I decided to give up my job and start looking for a new one, I was looking for something in a NGO but for that moment I didn´t get anything.
One day I was checking my e-mails and watching some videos in youtube and found out a interesting video,
in my opinion a video that in someway change my life. Is about Litre of Light, and is the project which I´m going to talk today.
Believe or not but according the magazine, the economist magazine in the world there 1.5 million people that don’t have electricity.
So it’s something that it’s incredible that happen and that’s true. There are 1.4 billion people without electricity how I tell you and
for example in Africa there are 585 million people, in India there are 289, Asia 487, Latin America 31 and Colombia the country where I come from
there’re 5 million people without electricity. The 66% Colombian territory hasn’t got power grid electricity.
So what do this people that haven’t got electricity? Well, they have two options. The first one is to use candles, candles for going everywhere.
They have to use part of this salary in paying this bills. Well… so thinking about this .. Well We saw many problems, so what we can do?
I want to say something before. What is the common factor in these houses and in these families? Well They have more domestic violence.
Why? Because you know If You live in a house and You haven’t got light during the day, You’re going to be angry and You are going to be
susceptible so You are going to be angry with your family so You are going to be perhaps rude with them. As well there is more illiteracy
because Children can’t study because they haven’t got light in their home so they decided to go outside and do another thing.
There is a solution and this solution is working now in Philippines, in Colombia and in some parts of world and it’s about this one..
We are doing this ,, We are taking plastic bottles and We are becoming them in solar bulbs. Do you think is possible? Well We are going to see something.
It’s a low technology, Why is a low Technology? Because You don’t have to be an engineer or a scientific or You don’t have to spend three years
to get a degree to make a solar bottle. Basically It’s really easy. Low cost because It’s really accessible I mean You don’t have to be a
rich person to get a bottle. There are a lot of bottles in the rubbish bin so why don’t use it? And it’s eco-friendly.
There is a solution in the bin … in the rubbish bin so why don’t use it? Because that’s true there are solar panels but how accessible are they
for poor people.. Do you think how poor people have access to this kind of devices? Perhaps no but a bottle, everybody has access to a bottle
so Why don’t use it? So everybody can use it and has access. There are some photos in my country.
However there is a simple way, the most important way and the easiest and the quickest and it’s spreading the idea. Why don’t put it on your
facebook or send this video to another friend and You know If Everybody knows how to use it Everybody is going to be happy. Everybody can do it.
Because that’s the problem there are many ideas many projects but people don’t share them. Well we want to is share the idea and tell your friends
tell your family and tell everybody how to use it.
We are aiming to make the world a sustainable place to live and we want you to join us.
Finally I just want to say something
Around the world there are million people that want to change the world and do things for poor people however just a few decided to do it.
