Hi. Now what we're going to work on next is the shape and refinement of the nose. I have
drawn out here what we have on our sculpture at this point in time is a square block which
represents the front of the nose. A side view, real rough, of what represents the side view
of the nose and then an underside. I'm going to draw these things so that you can see the
basic shapes of the nose as we need to carve them. Notice that on this shape, I'm leaving
myself some play room because what I'm going to ultimately do is we're going to have the
eyebrow comes back. The eye falls into this general area and then we're going to refine
this shape into the basic shape that we know of as a human nose. Now, from the side, the
nose swells back. There's a swell here. This actually comes up and has a shape like that.
And the bottom part of the nose actually has this little extra lip that we're not used
to thinking about but it exists. From the front, the nose has a shape. Here's this flare,
like this. And then the bulb of the nose extends below the flairs and then it's got a straight
area. The general shape is triangular. Here's where the nostril will lie. The nose actually
comes down and that's what the shape of the nose looks like from the front. From the underside,
it has a shape like this. This being the part of the upper lip, the nostril fits in this
general area. And this area here is where the upper lip will go. So now we're going
to try and shape these things into this little bulb by starting to carve away at the 2 nostrils
because they become the key for everything else.
