There are about a hundred thousand victims of sex trafficking within the United
States. American children
that are being moved by pimps on a regular basis. The majority of the
the children that are being prostituted in the United States start at an age of
13.
The average age is around 15,
so they're extremely on vulnerable.
Sex trafficking of children is a hidden
issue. A lot of americans don't realize that this is happening within our
country.
The Innocence Lost National Initiative, which is run by
the FBI's crimes against children unit, looks at the domestic sex trafficking of
children within the United States
prostitution is thought of as a victimless crime. Our investigations have shown that
30 percent the victims, the adult victims,
actually started as children. It's important for Americans to know that this is
happening
within the United States. The *** is essentially trying to move them wherever
he can to make the most money.
Unfortunately they're extremely disposable.
One of the main things that I've tried to do to
assist the investigators that work with across the nation, is to use technology.
We know, at a federal level, that even though the problem has disappeared from
that one local
venue, they're still being worked somewhere, it's just a matter of
where. So we've come together and developed
various forms of technology that we've been able to deploy
to the nation, to our investigators, so that they can
utilize it to connect with others across the nation and recover these children and
prosecute both the best possible case
to prosecute the pimps. The mission has been extremely successful we have recovered
over 1100 children and prosecuted over 500
pimps and others who have exploited young children. We've had children
as young as 9 in our investigations. Working crimes against children matters,
personally to me, I think is the most rewarding job that you can have.
I enjoy working in law enforcement. I've worked terrorism cases
and a variety of other types of investigations
but I am very dedicated and passionate to working crimes against children matters
and knowing that we're recovering victims
and when every time we prosecute a ***
that just means that he's unable
to harm future victims.
