Sometimes you won't find as many books about your topic in the Upstate Library as you might
like. When that happens, you can try PASCAL Delivers, our state-wide rapid book delivery
service. PASCAL is a consortium of more than 50 South Carolina academic libraries that
maintains a common catalog of holdings from which you may request books.
The easiest way to use the service is to start with a search in our catalog. Here, for example,
are the results for a search about Facebook and privacy. Just two books! If I want to
see what other libraries have, I just need to click the blue-green PASCAL Delivers icon.
I've now repeated my search in the PASCAL catalog. Notice we have 46 results! This catalog
looks a little different, but the underlying system is the same as ours. You can click
on a title to find out more information about a book, and you can click on "Display Holdings"
to find out which libraries in South Carolina own the book. If the book is available for
request, you can "Request this item."
Simply choose "USC Upstate" from the drop-down menu, fill in this form with your name and
the barcode from your student ID, and submit. You will get a confirmation about which library
the book is coming from. It usually takes 4-5 business days for us to receive a book.
It will be held at our circulation desk for you and you will receive an email message
when it comes in. The loan period for books borrowed through PASCAL is 6 weeks. You may
renew a book for an additional three weeks if there has not been a hold placed on it.
PASCAL Delivers is a great service, and one you will want to know about. If you have any
questions about using it, please,
