The skills veterans bring from the military to
civilian jobs are leadership,
definitely motivation.
I think a really, really high work ethic.
As a veteran I think I bring the stick-to-it-tiveness.
Okay, you gave me a task, I'm going to take that task
and I'm going to run with it,
I'm going to stick with it until I get the job done.
I believe that one important skill that I bring to the
federal workplace, from the military,
is our perseverance - not stopping until you get the
job done.
The experiences and the skills that I've learned
from the military helped me to focus more when I receive
an assignment to complete it to it's fullest,
and even above the standards.
I bring management.
I have managed a plethora of people.
My experience in the military has given me the
ability to I think to cope any type of dynamic
change that happens at any time.
I think that military guys and veterans in general -
they're so well versed and able to deal
with changing environments.
Because we're leaders, at a certain point in time,
you all are leaders and you have to show other people
that you can do the job.
The ability to plan, the leadership skills that I was
required to have on active duty,
the ability to work with all different types of people,
various backgrounds.
My skills actually, from infantry,
working to the VA believe it or not are quite effective
because my mission and some of our goals in Iraq -
it's called a three block war, which is pretty
much you have to win hearts and minds.
Well, that's pretty much what I'm doing at the VA.
