MOBILE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
IT'S A FOLLOW-UP TO A STORY WE
BROKE LAST WEEK RIGHT HERE ON
FOX 10
NEWS AT NINE. LATE THIS
AFTERNOON, CHIEF
MICHEAL T. WILLIAMS SAT DOWN
WITH ME TO TALK
ABOUT THE FINDINGS OF AN
INTERNAL INVESTIGATION.
THE COMMANDER OF THE THIRD
PRECINCT, CAPTAIN DEWAYNE HILL,
WAS AT THE
CENTER OF THE INVESTIGATION.
< AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION
FOUND FORMER CAPTAIN DEWAYNE
HILL GULITY OF CONDUCT
UNBECOMING, UNLAWFUL CONDUCT
AND AN ETHICS VIOLATION. HILL
HAS ENTERED EARLY RETIREMENT,
AND WILL AVOID PENALITES FROM
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
" The commander of the third
precinct had Intercepted,
activated and began using a visa
debit
card , without the owners
consent." POLICE CHIEF MICHEAL
T.
WILLIAMS SAYS, A DEBIT CARD WAS
INADVERTENTLY SENT TO HILL'S
PRECINCT
OFFICES. AND HILL BEGAN USING
THE CARD TO WITHDRAW MONEY...BUY
SOME CLOTHES AND EVEN BOUGHT A
FISHING
LICENSE. THE TOTAL AMOUNT
STOLEN? JUST UNDER
THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS. " It's
very disappointing for me to
have to sit here
an go through the sequence of
events over three hundred
dollars..
less than three hundred dollars"
WILLIAMS SAYS THE DEBIT CARD
ACCOUNT WAS
OPENED BY AN ADVISOR FROM A
MOBILE POLICE EXPLORERS POST.
THE EXPLORER'S PROGRAM OFFERS
YOUNG ADULTS A CHANCE TO GET A
BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT POLICE
WORK.
WILLIAMS SAYS THE MONEY IN THE
ACCOUNT, WAS NOT FROM PUBLIC
FUNDING BUT FROM PRIVATE
DONATIONS AND FUNDRAISERS.
" the kids would go out and
maybe bag groceries wash cars or
something to earn money and then
those monies were put into that
account to be used at the
discretion of that advisor"
WILLIAMS
SAYS HILL PAID BACK THE STOLEN
MONEY...A NEW CAPTAIN WILL BE
NAMED SOON. " We have to be
able to trust the people we send
out in the streets or send into
your home to write up a burglary
report or a theft report we have
to be
able to trust those people and
when we cant trust them then
there is no place for them In an
organization like this"
WHEN IT COMES TO POSSIBLE
"CRIMINAL" CHARGES AGAINST HILL,
POLICE SAY THAT
DECISION IS UP TO THE VICTIM. AS
FOR HILL'S RETIREMENT PAY,
POLICE SAY HILL IS NOT OLD
ENOUGH TO GET "FULL" BENEFITS
RIGHT NOW .....BUT IN
SIX YEARS HE WILL QUALIFY.
