Welcome to week two! Normally I would record a video of myself talking to you, but I just
got a new computer and I don't have a webcam yet! Hopefully I'll be getting one soon, but
until then you get a pretty picture of me, and a screencast video.
Well, you made it past the course orientation - now we can focus on the content for the
course! So, lets talk about what is going on in the course this week.
First thing when you log in to the course you'll see the announcements, don't forget
to review these each time you log into the course, you never know what I'll post! Like
right now there is an Extra Credit opportunity available, it does have a due date, so - if
you haven't done so already, take a minute to check it out.
From this point forward, everything you need to complete the tasks for the specific week
will be posted in the Assignments section of the course. All of the other links in the
navigation area are only there if you need them.
When you go to the assignment section you'll see some quick links at the top of the page
- these are resources that you may need throughout the course, or as you are completing assignments.
Below the quick links are the weekly folders. You will always have access to two weeks worth
of content. The folder on top will be the current week, and the bottom folder will be
the next week. I open the units this way so if you need to work ahead, for any reason,
you have access to the content.
Remember, once the week is over, the folder closes and disapears from the Assignments
area. If you need or want any of the info from that week, use the Course Resource website
link from the quick links area.
To access the assignments for each week click on the dates next to the folder icon. You
will see that each week is laid out in a logical progression of how you should complete the
activities.
This week you will begin with a VERY brief overview of the entire Microsoft Office suite.
The Microsoft Office Suite includes a variety of application programs; the most common are
Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Publisher. Depending on the version
of Office you have installed on your computer you may have access to all or only some of
these applications. You can learn more about Office by clicking on the link in the introduction
and watching the video.
Once you have reviewed the introduction info, the next task to complete is the textbook
tutorial.
The word tutorial can be a little bit confusing here - it means two things: one, each tutorial
is a chapter of the textbook. So, tutorial 1 = chapter 1, tutorial 2 = chapter 2 and
so on. It is also the literal meaning of a tutorial: a manual explaining how to use a
particular software package or computer system.
You'll notice that you are NOT required to submit this textbook tutorial. In future weeks
you WILL be required to submit the textbook tutorial. Don't worry, I'll explain more next
week.
Ok, so once you're done working through the textbook tutorial, the next task to complete
is the Getting Started with Office 2010 Worksheet. Click on the link to download the worksheet,
and answer the questions.
All of the answers for this worksheet are available in the textbook tutorial. OFF1 through
OFF30 refers to the page numbers of the tutorial.
When you're done, save the file - make sure you save it with the correct file name - and
submit it by clicking on the assignment link and attaching the file.
After you complete the worksheet you are ready for the last task of this week - the blog
post. Please read the important info about blog assignments, this information is here
to give you some additional insight on the blog activities. Once you have read the info,
review the assignment instructions. This assignment requires you to watch a video and respond
to some questions about it.
That's it ... all the tasks for this week are complete. Now you can concentrate on your
other courses.
Please remember, I spend a lot of time writing instructions - so PLEASE take the time to
read them. If you still have questions, some times I think I am being clear and I might
not be, don't be afraid to ask!
The quickest way to get a response is to post in the HELP discussion board. Just click on
HELP from the navigation menu, then click on the "Have a question? Need an answer? Click
here..." icon. This will take you to the forum where you can post your question. If you don't
know how to post, read my post to find out.
Well, that's all I have for you today ... good luck with the assignments. "Talk" to you soon.
