Hello, I’m Bertrand J. Simpson, Jr., Esquire, and next semester I will have the privilege
of teaching Political Science 355, a course entitled African-American Political Thought.
The purpose of the course is to study the life experiences of the African diaspora here
from the end of the Civil War to the modern times. The material we will use in the course
will help us understand how that particular community established for itself a political
and social identity within the larger context of American civil society. I believe it was
Plato Socrates who once opined that the youth are ill-suited to study political science.
Perhaps if you take my class next semester, between us, we can prove the old man wrong.
