My name is Edenlita Pangilinan, but in the studio I'm referred to as Miss P. I started
Tae Kwon Do when I was 12 years old after moving here from Guam. Being in Tae Kwon Do,
it's helped me really grow as a person, and it's helped me to be who I am today. When
I was younger, I'm sure as with a lot of people are, I wasn't as confident with myself. I
was an adolescent when I first started, so I wasn't -- my self-esteem wasn't that high,
and Tae Kwon Do, not only did it shape me to turn into a better leader, but it's also
helped my confidence increase, and now I could say that I can walk into a room, even with
people I don't know, and be confident and meet them without any fear. It's definitely
helped me to be a stronger person.
So since I was an adult -- I was about an orange belt at the time -- one of my instructors
recommended to me that I try Leadership. As I earned my black belt, I changed from a red
collar instructor, which is a trainee instructor, to a red-black collar, and now I'm a black-red-black
collar, and as I've said, I'm training to get my certified black collar. Master Dillow
is really the one who started up my career as an instructor in Tae Kwon Do.
My favorite thing about Tae Kwon Do is its ability to transform people from something
that they thought they never would be. So if you were a shy person and you weren't as
confident, you didn't have that much self-esteem, I just love the transformation that Tae Kwon
Do gives to you, where you turn into a more outgoing and less shy person, and definitely
more confident.
My favorite thing about teaching others is to just let them know and instill in them
to do everything to the best of their abilities and do everything with confidence. That way,
even if they're not, they don't start off as confident, then eventually, as they keep
doing it and they get used to it, they do turn into a more confident student and eventually
a more confident person.
If you're ever out there thinking about Tae Kwon Do or just any sort of martial art, whether
you just want to get more physically fit or if you want to become more confident with
yourself, whatever it may be, just try it out. I would love to personally train with
you, and maybe it's you that's going to be the next state champion or world champion.
You never know. And you could also be an instructor yourself one day. You'd never know until you
try.
