This video will discuss asking the copyright holder for permission,
which is one alternative to fair use.
Let's say you have something you want to use for a project or class.
You've done your fair use analysis but you think that what you want to do may not fit
within fair use.
You can actually ask the person that holds the copyright for permission to use their work.
First you need to track down the copyright holder.
This may be tricky if the rights have been sold or shifted.
If you need assistance with this research, ask your librarian.
When you ask for permission to use someone's work,
it would be helpful to explain specifically how you want to use it - will it be on the web?
How will your work be shared with the world?
Then, ask for specific permissions based on that.
This video explained how to get permission to use copyrighted materials.
Thanks for watching.
