Hello, this is Hyo Jin Ahn from TalkToMeInKorean.
Hi, I'm Seok Jin Jin.Hi, I'm Seok Jin Jin.
Hey.
Yes.
Today we have a special guest... We have a visitor.
I think it's the first time.
So bright.
So dazzling.
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
Yes. Hello everyone in TalkToMeInKorean.
I am Hye-yeon Jeon from Yonsei University, department of mass communication.
Hello.
She is so fresh.
Tell me about it. Something that I never felt during the other Talk series...
So you don't feel as fresh with me, Kyeong-eun and Kyeong-hwa...
So what's the topic we will discuss today?
Since we have a college student guest, why don't we talk about university?
Ah... University.
Yes.
It really feels like I was in school a few days ago.
That's a wrong feeling you have. Wrong feeling.
First, Hye-yeon, when did you enter univerisity?
I entered last March.
Last year March?
Yes.
Year 2011.
(Class that started in) 2011!
(Class that started in) 2011!
I see. Seok Jin, when did you enter and when did you graduate?
In year 2000, March 2000. We were the class that started in 2000.
You entered when I was in 2nd grade of elementary school...
Yes. When you were memorizing multiplication tables, I was studying in college.
And I graduated in year 2007.
In 2007. Usually guys go to military service, so I think their duration in school is longer than girls.
In my case, I'm in the middle. I entered in 2006, a year before Seok Jin graduated, and graduated last February, right before Hye-yeon entered.
So you and Hye-yeon have 11 years of difference of entering university, and 6 years between me and Hye-yeon, 5 years between you and me,
so I think a lot has changed in university life.
Yes, I think a lot has changed.
First, what is life like for university students these days?
These days, there are a lot of school festivals going on.
That's right. Because it's spring.
Yes.
Since it's spring, there are a lot of festivals, and in Korea, we do a lot of things like "meetings (group blind dates)", and blind dates.
Hye-yeon, do you do "meetings" or blind dates often?
I've never been on a blind date, but I have been on a couple of "meetings".
Oh really?
It's the peak time for it.
That's true. Because it's spring.
What do you do, when you go on a "meeting"?
At a "meeting", I can make new friends, drink.
No, the "meeting" itself is not really a place you go to make friends.
Yes. There is a purpose.
The ultimate goal is to make a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Actually these days, you go to meetings not to make a boyfriend
but to "have fun with friends for a day".
Seok Jin, have you gone to a lot of meetings?
Yes. A little.
How was it?
My heart was fluttering.
The goal was clear those days.
Yes, for me.
Girlfriend! Girlfriend!
Also, it was 4 on 4. At the time, I thought "I need to look good no matter what!". To do my best to look good, I sat not face forward, but with my chin line showing, looked at them like this...
Where did you usually go for "meetings"?
I went to bars.
Yes in bars. After the bar, if the atmosphere was right, we would even go to karaoke.
So then, you all hang out together afterwards?
Yeah. All together till the end.
Is the trend still hanging out all together till the end?
To be honest, I met my boyfriend in a meeting.
You achieved your goal.
You said you were there to meet friends!
Actually, it's a peculiar case. Usually girls meet their boyfriends through 1 on 1 blind dates. Meeting, is more about just having fun and parting.
Truth be told, university students don't just go on meetings and blind dates.
That's right.
They study as well. When I was young, university life meant something free, only a little bit of studying, and a lot of free time,
but once I entered, reality was so different.
The freshmen study so hard, I was really shocked.
Is it still like that these days?
There are two large libraries in our school, with more than 2000 seats. During exam periods it's completely full. There are a lot of people that study all night.
Since first year?
Yes. From first year.
It's a lot different from our time.
When we first entered, it was more like, "you studied hard in high school, so get some rest in university!"
Just until our time.
I think so.
We also studied really hard. The kids. Not me.
The others were studying really hard.
At least in our time, until I was in 2nd year, there were no difficulties, no worries, not being able to find a job.
But when I got back from military, the world had changed.
That's right.
All the students are now worried about getting a job, and since people can't find jobs, students are studying hard from freshmen year.
Yes, so there was a time when I felt threatened.
I think the world is changing like this.
I think these days, getting a job is harder than entering college.
Right, so I think students are studying hard from freshmen year,
that's why Hye-yeon... Actually, what day is it today?
It's Thursday, isn't it?
We are working hard at our job,
This is what I envy about college students.
That's right.
Even if the generation changes, university students get some amount of freedom that employees or middle and high schoolers cannot enjoy.
So, tell us about what university life is like in your country, and if you graduated a long time ago, how college life was like back then. Please leave a comment below the video.
Yes. We will be waiting.
So now... We have to go work.
I still have a lot of time left.
Then, we will see you in our next video.
Bye!
