you
they report to you master have sustainable energy efficient
buildings on this campus
leading is an acronym for leadership in energy and
in an environment of the sign
indicate uh...
there's eight span
set of guidelines set
u_s_ gbc which is the u_s_ green counsel
green building council
has distributed
and it affects all
parts of design the energy efficiency really touches on everything from the
hpc systems down to the selection of the finishes the carpeting the flooring
uh...
the wall finishes the millwork the even the case like they were putting in the
last are
you sustainable would
right now in design and construction
use of energy in trying to reduce it as the holy grail the building started from
day one thinking about what is the best orientation and i know doesn't seem like
a big deal but actually really is we've created a situation where the building
itself just by its orientation actually
would be about fifteen to eighteen percent better than a building turned to
the other direction we do have uh... allot of glass as you can see when you
look at the building
and that allows the supreme and a lot of national daylight
which allows us to trial down the like pictures of lot about light fixtures
have
daylight harvesting sensors in them
and so they'll throttle down during the daytime when the sun is out
and that helps
considerably with our energy efficiency
by having lights off we reduce the heat load in the building
and by reducing the heat load we reduce the need for lots of additional call
like the other major thing that you'll see the people mask well why is this
penthouse
so tall it's thirty three-foot tall penthouse it is huge
the reason is because we have a very sophisticated heat recovery system
inside the building air handling unit actually
they'd the heat that's been generated in the building and are able to draw it
back into the system because of the way these units are double stacked
reuse the key that's being generated for other purposes the other thing that is
going to be a little different and you won't have seen much of this e in ece
medical school virtual beam systems
but she'll be in
uh... is basically like a ceiling diffuser used to seeing a regular grill
that delivers air
this brings water and air and regulates that
that specific location what we've really done has tried to knock every single
thing that we can to try to reduce the use of energy and try to meet
the university's goals this building is going to be uh...
about twenty five percent more efficient than the code requirement for this type
of building the energy consumption on these buildings isn't
is a huge cost
you are all well aware of what's happening in the world than
it's important to west too
uh... minimize the impact on the environment
