This, is the story of my father
Arye. Son of Bracha and Mordechai
After his name - My brother
'Leibale' as aunt Sara used to say
Dad was born in Sarney, in Vohlin shire
His whole family slaughtered by the Nazi monster
Father has escaped and survived
Joined the Parizans in the forests
At the age of 18, Came to Israel right into the 'war for Independece'
Here, Welcomed him Aunt Sara and uncle Yehoshua
That emigrated earlier before World War II
Dad opened a 'long live tradition' of Infantry service
by Joining Battalion 51 of 'Giveati' regiment
Which later renamed to 'Golany' in which both Modi an I served
Strong friendship grows among those veteran old buddies
Izzy, Tzvi Nedivi and others...
That as kids we experienced in visits and family gatherings
We also have many reunion meetings
Look a bit different, Don't they?? But the nustalgy....
Worth every ditch digging or military fast march
A unique bond was formed between Dad and 'Bren'...
The Machine-Gun of-course not the General..
Here In front of you - in its best, the 1948 generation, in full color this time.
From a construction Worker to a Medical lab office clerk
Where I enjoyed playing with the Guinea pigs as a kid
Continue with Hotel management study and then
managing Medical guest houses, througout the country
So, as we have seen before - This is Dad
And That... is mom..
Still, haven't met each other
Beautiful, don't you agree?
Grandma Leah and Grandpa Avraham whom I got my name from
Mom grew up in 'Beer Tuvia'. - Farms, Cows, Like 'Nahalal' - You know..
So soon they gonna meet each other
See? I told you..
In the next scene, you'll watch the magic outcome of this encounter
Me and my brother, Of-course
At first we lived in 'Kiriat Shalom'
Then we moved to good old 'Rammat-Aviv'
In the center, Ahron - my best childhood friend
Another family member was Miki our dog
Since always, Dad loved pets and animals
Leah, The sole Grandma I knew, lived in our home
'You don't neglect parents' said Dad, She'll stay with us
The close family circle was Haim(Eymek) - Leah's brother
And Dad's family side: The katzmans from Tel-Aviv
The Karnis from Kibutz Hatzor, and the Levins from Ramat- Hasharon, Ramat-Aviv and Timorim
Uncle Oscar(osher) too would have come every now and then for a visit
The death of my beloved mother has ended this chapter
and a new one opened up in the life of two families when Arye met Ruth
Can't help pointing out the mythical 'Contessa'
We've moved from Bat-Yam and Ramat-Aviv to Holon
Ruth, Dad, Liora, Modi and I
As you could have seen We've travelled quite a bit
have hosted and been hosted a lot
I think, we've had quite a 'hell of a time'
The family has grown to include the Ziments from Bat-Yam
Esther and Moshe - Ruti's parents
and the whole family of Menachem her brother
Liora, My brother and I, We are the children! The middle generation
But the real thing is the future - The Grandchildren..
So let's see what we have: saar and Shiri from Liora and Nahum
And also.. Nofar
Ayelet and Nitzan from Aviva and Avi
Aviv and Shir from Dina and Modi
But wait...Let's not forget Noya the grand - grand daughter from Shiri and Tzafrir
Also - One black Nani to his blonde Momi dog - Lucky
Modi was a smiling vivid kid, but very sensitive
Being a child, He suffered from Bronchitis
Our whole life we've been roomates - Bed by bed
When the light went off, we kept playing our games into the night
Modi served as Paramedic in 'Golani'
Then married Dina and along came Shir and Aviv
I painfully regret he is not with us today
OK! here we can see a special phenomenon
As kid I can remember how I liked being carried on dad's shoulders
Believe me, I stayed there a lot
I had disputes with my brother, whose turn it is
Quite a serious matter, mind you
I remember a lot of 'going to the sea beach'
Sidney Ali, Tel Baruch beach.. Cool down, 'The girls' were not there yet
Dad has a special charming bond with children
I always envied him for that, unfortunately I didn't inherit it from him.
In 1995, 11 years ago, Ruti and Dad decided to get closer to the kids
Looking for a house in the north of the country
Due their enthusiasm, They manage to brake only in Kfar-vradim..
There, they have found a warm home, wonderful counryside neighborhood
A new circle of acquaintances and friends
Workshops, activities, trips.. nothing's missing
They are real happy - so we are Happy for them as well
On 1990, When we were in a sabbatical in Milwaukee
Ruth and dad came for a visit
Thus being their inter-continental 'Grand tour'.
which happens to be their first trip ever, abroad
They visited us, Beverly and Bob in Washington and Welma and Jerald in LA
Continue with Europe where they met Shiri and saar for the second part of the journey
They also stayed at Elizabeth's, Ruth's friend in Switzerland
Since ever I recall, dad have had two skilled hands with a passion for arts and crafts
Lots of tools and a storehouse full of junk
And you Have a man That neither pulls his hands from the easy jobs nor afraid of the most complicated.
Paintings, sculptures, Stone fence for the yard..You name it..
The huge Flamingo bird he made in his yard was a real issue for any construction engineer
Dad has no limits to imagination taking it as far as possible
Even if he fails, he does not falter nor give up
Last year he was busy with cultural activity for Yiddish revival
Translating, Teaching and organizing a special evening of Yiddish shows and humor
