The best way to embed your personally created videos into Blackboard is to follow a few
simple steps. This video assumes that you have already created and uploaded a video
to your YouTube channel.
You'll start in a class in Blackboard. I'm going to be adding a video to my Module 1
item "Weekly Review". Click on the 'Record from WebCam' icon. That's this little icon
right here. If you cannot see 3 rows of icons then click this down arrow to expand your
icon selection.
I could also choose to use the MashUp tool however the Mashups searches the entire YouTube
database and it may take up to 24 hours for your video that you may have just uploaded
to appear in the findings.
When you click on the 'Record from WebCam' Icon a new window opens that prompts you to
sign into YouTube. Enter your YouTube/Google account information and your password and
then sign in. Then grant permission to Blackboard to communicate with the YouTube servers.
From here I could actually record a video right here from my own webcam and have it
upload to YouTube when I'm done. But I've already recorded a video and uploaded it into
YouTube so I don't need to create a new one.
To find JUST MY videos I'll click the Browse Tab. This opens up my YouTube account with
only the content I've personally created. It's more current that the Mashup Tool in
Blackboard because it's not searching through the entire YouTube database it's only looking
my little piece of the YouTube pie.
I can select the video I want to share and click 'insert'. It gives me 2 options in what
my video might look like. One of them is a play in place with the height and width already
predetermined (I can change these if I choose to) this will display like a normal YouTube
video. Or I can select the thumbnail view which is a small image of your video but when
you click on it, it explodes in a full version. Either one of these options is fine.
I'm going to go ahead and select the play in place and then click Insert. Notice I have
a yellow box in my text editor, this is my video; it won't display until I've submitted
the item. I can still enter text to my text box as if I want to draw attention to it or
provide context for my students. When you're all done click submit. Here is my video. This
is the best way to insert your videos into anywhere there is a text editor in Blackboard.
