The '25 car dude' has just become...
...the '26 car dude'!
Come and meet my Mazda RX-8!
This exclusive design japanese
with a 4-door coupé body,
started to catch my eye somewhere in a Lisbon car show way back in time.
I really enjoyed the exterior look
and i fell in love even more, the minute i sat behind the wheel.
As many of you should know,
this model has a particularly interesting engine,
for it's a 'rotary', also known as a 'wankel',
thanks to the german genius of herr felix wankel.
It has no pistons or valves
it's very compact, simple and smooth,
due to the absence of any vertical movement. Only two rotors that always spin in one single direction,
guarantying the 4-stroke Otto cicle.
Another advantage in this type of engine
has to do with the capacity to generate high specific outputs
for with a mere 1.300cc size this naturally aspirated wankel pumps out something like 231hp
and... it's able to rev beyond 9.000rpm!
But there are drawbacks...
and one of them, typically associated with these rotary engines, is a high appetite for fuel,
in the case of this RX-8, are around 14/15 ltrs/100
not to mention the oil consumption
a 'must have' in the combustion, to guarantee the rotor's internal lubrication.
...around 1 litre for every 1.000kms.
With poor fuel consumption, u've guessed...
and a word of warning for the 'sensitive' ones...
this baby spits out something like 284g/km of CO2 emissions!
Just for you to have an idea...
it's slightly less than the new Porsche 911 GT3...
with 475hp!
I love the way the car looks,
apart from everything else
and those 'suicide' rear doors are something pretty special.
Inside and also on the outside,
the rotary 'theme' is more or less everywhere...
We find the rotor on both bumpers...
on top of the gear lever..
and even on the seat rests.
The 4 seats available have 'real' room for four...
and it even has a practical boot with 290ltrs.
The driving position is higher than i'd wish for
but the comfort provided by the sport seats is pretty good!
With a 50/50 perfect weight distribution,
to which contributes the engine mounting behind the front axle
and the fuel tank in front of the rear axle,
the car's handling is superb!
It's not a car to be driven with low revs
and if you wish to enjoy the best it has to offer,
i'd recommend u keep it well above 5,000rpm!
The 231hp drive the rear wheels
via a 6 speed manual transmission,
setup in a typical japanese way.
To make things even better
we also get to enjoy the wonders of a Torsen locking diff!
After my last lunacy's presentation
i'd like to express my sincere gratitude
for the support u've all been giving to this project..
Without fans, followers, 'likes' and comments,
it would sometimes be extremely hard
to wake up at 5h30 AM on a rainy Sunday
to bring you a new video every Thursday!
Wouldn't like to finish without paying a special thanks
to Daniel Marinho from 'Multimedia com Todos',
without whom none of this would be possible.
2015 presents a great deal of challenges
but, if all goes well, we'll have plenty of good stuff coming your way!
Click, comment, share and above all, have as much fun as we do!
Thank yooooou!!
