Hey everybody! Today I'm going to be showing you how to make one of these
pitbull key chains from Dejah Vue Designs, and these are fun because you
can use whatever color combination you want to make it look like your
favorite pit bull. These key chains are commonly known in the in the hoop world
as snap tabs, and that is simply because they have a little tab like this that
snaps together to hold the hardware of your choosing. So we have a swivel clip
here, and we have a key ring, or whatever else you want to clip it onto. So, this
key chain is different from other ones that I've shown you how to do because it has
applique on it. If you don't know appliquéd simply
means to apply one piece of fabric in this case vinyl over another piece for
decorative purposes, and that is how we get the two-tone effect on this
particular key chain. So, stay tuned for the tutorial! If you like it, please like
the video and click on subscribe if you haven't already. I will be putting out
new videos every other Sunday starting in 2018. So, enjoy! First, run your
placement stitch.
Add your marine vinyl making sure to cover the entire placement stitch. It'll
now stitch a placement for the face detail applique.
Add your vinyl. And again, make sure it's covering the entire placement stitch.
It'll now do the tack down.
Now you'll remove the hoop from the machine and trim the top and sides of the
applique where the eyes will go. For best results, don't trim the bottom just yet.
Wait until the end when it's finished.
Then return the hoop to the machine and stitch the nose in the eyes. If you'd
like, you can use embroidery software to add a color stop to make the eyes and
nose a different color.
Now stitch the ear detail.
Now remove the hoop from machine turn it over. Add your back vinyl. You can use
either spray adhesive designed for machine embroidery or tape to stick it in place.
Return to the machine and stitch the top half of the key chain. The top and bottom
stitches are separate so that you can use different colors for each if you'd
like. I used white for both of mine.
Now remove it from the hoop, remove the stabilizer, and start trimming your loose
threads. And you can go back and neaten up your applique if you need to.
Now cut out your key chain. Cut about an eighth of an inch from the seam and use
a large scissors to avoid jagged edges.
Now it's time to add your snap. I use Kam snaps, and I use the long prong variety
because I'm working with two layers of marine vinyl.
Use an awl to punch two holes in the tab portion of the key chain. This is where
the snaps will go. Then simply push the prong through and squeeze to install
the snap. Do the same thing on the bottom
snap. Snap it a couple times just to make sure those snaps were installed
correctly. Now it's time to add your hardware. I have a key ring and a swivel
clip .I'm going to use the swivel clip. Just snap it on, and you're done!
