Welcome to Freiburg, the capital of the Black Forest, bicycles, wine and environment.
We stand in front of the city hall of Freiburg.
This is the Dreisam river. It flows through Freiburg and provides our city with energy.
Here you see a small water-power plant.
It produces energy for 300,000 kWh and provides the electricity to 150 homes.
Older power plants could only produce enough power for 300 homes,
but this newest one can produce 50 times more power than the older ones.
There had been 300 small water-power plants like this one. In addition to the newest ones,
50 of them are now being reactivated to improve the reputation of water as source of renewable energy.
They produce electricity which will feed power into the public grid according to the German Einspeichergesetz,
the law that ensures individuals and companies good prices for sustainably generated power.
Next to the plant, a passage has been made for migratory fish.
Originally, the river shut down here, which made it impossible for fish to pass.
By establishing this water-power plant and the passage, it has become easy for migratory fish to pass in order to spawn.
Freiburg has the latest model of the water-power plant, but some still use the electricity generated by the traditional water-power plant.
In Freiburg, this laundry is well-known for its long tradition.
It uses electricity generated from water-power plants.
Ecology is important to us. Personally speaking, it helps to prevent further constructions of nuclear power plants.
We focus on electricity provided by the water-power plants for our laundry.
Thank you for being with us. See you again in Freiburg.
