(Dr. Karla Kennedy-Hagan). Hello.
My name is Dr. Karla Kennedy-Hagan with the
School of Family and Consumer Sciences
at Eastern Illinois University.
Today, we're going to prepare a citrus salad
that is sure to waken your taste buds.
The fabulous fruit salad is a great way to start your day.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
(Ben Osborn). Hi, my name is Ben Osborn
and I'm going to make fruit salad for you today.
First off, I have strawberries.
They're very high in vitamin C and also potassium.
Next, I have apples.
They are really good sources of fiber.
They actually contain pectin which is ideal for diabetics
just because it slows the rising of blood sugar
and also reduces cholesterol.
Next, I have got a couple walnuts.
They contain a good source of protein
and also I've got bananas for you.
They contain potassium.
You have to stir the fruit and mix it,
get a good thorough mixture.
You add one cup of yogurt.
You can get the low-fat or regular variety.
I got the low-fat version which is healthier for you.
You stir thoroughly.
Then, you add roughly a tablespoon of cinnamon.
Again, stir thoroughly.
Fruit salad is very economical.
You can have any fruits like you can get the fruits in season.
You can find cheap fruits.
You just go online and you can find the fruits in-season
like in the month of December, the fruits in-season
are strawberries and raspberries.
It's a good recipe just for college students or elderly
just because it's really easy to make
and it's affordable for all.
After a thorough mixture, here's your final product.
Thank you for listening to me today.
