You know, I started in '96 and at that time you could basically count the number of
street artists in Australia on one hand.
There was not a lot going on, you know, the stencilling and a few paste-ups
and so on and then, you know, you look at it today and you could
easily say that there are millions of people around the world that would
consider themselves to be a street artist in some form or another.
And that's happened in 15, 20 years, you know, and that ... I mean, that is really incredible
and that ... that is why I guess that people call it the biggest art movement
the world has ever seen.
As an artist I think that we're here to change the world.
I think we're here to ask the difficult questions and we refuse to ask permission.
You know, young people in their 20s and they're engaged with political ideas.
Like you look around at some of the amazingly complicated political
ideas that young people are engaged with and we should be just embracing
these people 'cause it's amazing that that's the kind of things they're thinking
about or wanting to talk about.
For a long time doing the posters meant that you would just go out in the middle
of the night or, you know, some random time of the day that you could get away with it.
The concept was that you could do a very elaborate picture with all sorts of details
in it and put it in your favourite spot on the street.
There is definitely a point in doing street art which has a serious message
but sometimes the message is just in the action.
So therefore the image doesn't necessarily have to be politicised
because the activity is so politicised.
I really ... I think it's really cool but also I like how it's all ... like the wall's
not quite all straight, it's all in different levels so the painting's sort of got
like depth and I love the colours, the sort of maroon and then like the
electric orange and things.
To me it looks like a giraffe there, the head and I like that eagle too, the eagle there.
I wish there were more things like this
laneways with lots of art in them that you can just sort of come down ...
especially when you can just watch people painting them.
