The group of people in the lifetime achievement are people that worked at kpbs over the last
53 years that in the course of their career did something that was impactful and really
made a difference in the community. Brad Warner is being honored in lifetime achievement because
of his great career here at kpbs. He was the first television program director. He hired
some incredible people in 1967 that laid the foundation to build kpbs into what it is today.
Brad and I worked together on getting this place put together, getting the people here,
getting an actual television and radio station on the air, and he is just one of those people
who was crucial to being here at the very beginning. He also knew that public affairs
was an important part of our community. In the 70s we built an incredible news and public
affairs department, and then when we went on, we began producing national productions.
So Brad was the type of person that let people find a way to be very successful. I always
admired Brad because he could stand up in front of a camera and talk and be so wonderful,
so passionate, and hit all of the key points. We have a lot of good entertainment here on
KPBS, and lots of wonderful music shows 365 days a year. We'd like to have you convert
your love for music into support for the station. He hosted our auction. He was always on TV
pledge, and he was really the face of kpbs during the 70s. Brad Warner was a wonderful
person. Always smiling, always singing in the halls as he walked around, always saying
hi to everybody, and always very interested in what you were doing. He was truly a man
that made it fun to come to work everyday.
