Raúl's Gold Before the sun was the color of gold and it
shined all day until a tragic day. This is the story of why the moon is white and why
the raccoons don't come outside during the day. It was a beautiful night in the valley
of raccoons in the month of August. The moon was shining and the wind was blowing. A raccoon,
Raúl was thinking about his father, who had passed away last year. While Raúl was looking
at the moon, he was crying and wishing that his father was still here with him.
It was customary all the raccoons go into the woods and look for gold together. That
day Raúl decided to look for gold alone because he thought that if he goes alone, he would
discover more gold. He took a nap because it would be a long night. When he was sleeping,
he dreamed about his father and the times that they looked for gold together. They had
a lot of fun when they were together. Suddenly Raúl´s father came into the dream and said,
"Don't go into the woods of the valley of raccoons to look for gold. The bears will
be looking for you. They will eat you! They will put you in a hot skillet and prepare
fried raccoon with green salsa. If you go looking for gold alone you will be alone forever
and you will have robbed all the gold from the others. Do not disobey me!"
Raúl wakes up from the nap and decides to go look for gold even though his father warned
him not to. He was in the valley of raccoons and started to look for gold. There was a
lot of gold in the woods. He found everywhere. Raúl was excited because he had never seen
so much gold. He took the gold back to his shack where he could do a lot of things with it.
He had gold fever. He took all the gold he could. Raúl was crying for joy
about how much gold he had. Raúl put the gold in jars, back packs, and cans.
He used spoons to put the gold in the containers. The gold was Raúl's gold and
he would not share it with the other raccoons. The gold was all his.
He had more than he and his father had ever discovered when his father was alive.
He took all the other raccoon´s gold that they shared with the sun.
In that moment, the sun changed to be white and darkness was made.
Twelve hours of golden sun and twelve hours of white sun at night.
Today Raúl is a very lonely raccoon. He sits alone at night. He cries every day and dreams
of his father and what his father said to him. Raúl cries to the moon and says,
¨Father! I'm sorry! I have betrayed you. I can't believe that I took all the gold. I don't want it now.
The gold is not worth anything if I can't share it with my friends. I'm sorry father.
Now the sky is not bright from the sun because I did not share the gold with the others."
In that moment, the raccoons only go out at night.
Raúl doesn't know what to do. Nobody wants him. Raúl sits in his tree alone and cries.
His father was right; he is alone now.
The others are already starting families and sending their children to school. Raúl has no family or children.
He will be alone forever. He looks at the moon and thinks about the gold.
Raúl was selfish and will always be selfish now.
The moral of this story is, "Always listen to your parents and share the gold of your life."
When you look at the moon, you will notice that it is white because Raúl stole the gold from the sun.
Raúl created the darkness because he would not share the sun's gold.
He robbed the gold of the other racoons. The sun is white at night to remind
us that we need to share our joy with others. Not only our friends, but with everyone.
If Raúl had shared his gold, he would be happy with a lot of friends that love him.
This is the story why the sun is white and the raccoons come out at night.
