Hello, I'm Nurse Shain. I am a Practice Nurse in Ealing.
I'm here today to talk to you about something rather important.
Bowel Cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK. It particularly affects those over 50yrs old
The earlier the diagnosis of Bowel Cancer, the better the chances are of Survival.
So what are the signs and symptoms to watch out for? Well here are a few things that you might notice.
Bleeding - which you might spot as Blood in your Poo, Blood in the Toilet or Blood on the Toilet Paper when you wipe yourself.
Change in Bowel Habit that lasts more than 4 weeks - such as diarrhoea, constipation or passing poo more frequently than usual
Perhaps you have noticed that you are using more or less toilet paper than usual?
Abdominal Pain - that may be persistent or severe enough that it may make you reach out for medication
Losing weight for no obvious reason
Most of these signs and symptoms will not be due to Bowel Cancer.
However if you experience any of them, it is important to see your doctor to be assessed.
Before I go, if you would like a reminder of the signs and symptoms of Bowel Cancer.....
