Hi, my name is Julien Romeo. I will direct, with Ian Cresswell, the Jurassic Park: Origins Fanfilm
we'll both direct the actors and be on the set
but, on top of that, we are in charge of several other tasks
I created all the dinos and supervise the Visual effects team worldwide
and Ian is in charge of the script and will help us produce professional quality video
since he has access to movie camera
The Jurassic Park: Origins project is a fanfilm project,
made by the fans, for the fans, Worldwide
All of us are huge fans of Jurassic Park
We all read the novels and watch the movies again and again
but making a fanfilm with people all over the world, just linked by internet
is not an easy task
The first thing we had to keep in mind
is that it's just a fanfilm, we won't have the budget or the authorization
to make everything work out like we would like it to...
Like having full size animatronics, or building a visitor center or raptor pen
but today we've succeeded in making up very realistic CGI dinos
exact replicas of the ones in the movie
Since 6 years ago, I've been working hard to make the CGI dinosaurs of
Jurassic Park: Origins
sometimes models are made from scratch, sometimes from maquette
using a 3d scanning technology
we can get a perfect replica of the real model
Then you need to make a retopology to get the
division levels of details
and unwraps UVs to be able to paint textures
that's the only way animators can start their job on the models
We're trying to stick
as close as possible to the novels
and movie design
We've got some props like the Hammond cane and cryocan
We created costumes, too
and more cool stuff
is on the way
Now we need to film on Kauai, for sure
even if that name doesn't ring a bell for some people,
we couldn't make a Jurassic Park fanfilm without going to Kauai
that's why in May 2012, I went there and,
with my lovely wife and my good friends Kenney Sills and Shannon Mason,
who live on the island,
we made awesome videos for the upcoming
teaser of the fanfilm
The very first step before shooting.
Most of the exteriors of the trilogy were shot on Kauai
but going back to the Island for a new Jurassic Park sequel
is something really hard to do. So we thought we could make
a prequel of the first Jurassic Park
and Jurassic Park: Origins will show the John Hammond childhood,
how he gets the money from the Japanese investors thanks to the miniature elephant
the first failure and success with dino cloning.
It is important to show the very first step
of the animals in Jurassic Park, and of course like in all Jurassic Park movies, we will show dino attacks.
Even if I can make the animals move,
I'm a CGI modeler
and a model-maker, absolutely not an animator
today I'm going to show some exclusive tests, made by some of our animators
all around the world.
These are the very first animation tests we've made.
and that's very exciting.
in that shot for example we edited in the helicopter
and the fences
and here are some walking and run-cycle tests.
We've tried to stay as close as possible
to the original running tests (from JP1)
Here is a Gallimimus run-cycle
and here a baby Tyrannosaurus Rex
and here is a test on the adult.
If everything's ok we should be able to release a very first teaser
before our 2nd visit to Kauai.
We plan to use a movie camera to film professional actors
with a very high quality
we are in contact with people who own
real Jurassic Park jeeps,
and other friend who's making an exact replica of the ford explorer
for use on the island when shooting.
Jurassic Park fans are a big family
I've even gotten to meet some famous people like
Steven Spielberg... or Matt Winston
and visit some very cool places like
ILM (Industrial Light and Magic)
or Legacy Effects
just remember we are making all this for the fans, this is a 100%
non-profit project.
So we need the fans to show us their support.
