Tech eyes will be on San Francisco Monday for the kickoff of Apple’s Worldwide Developer
Conference.
And of course, as with all things Apple, rumors abound.
KOMO: “Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to show off new iPhone software this week. ... There
are reports that the popular Google Maps service built into iPhones will be dumped for software
that Apple has developed itself.”
WVAH: “The big question remains: when will we see a new iPhone? And a new Apple TV?
At WWDC, Apple hosts developers and offers hands-on labs. But its keynote address, which
is set for Monday morning, has become a platform for special announcements about new products.
Bloomberg’s Courtney Donohoe runs through the list of possibilities, but spends the
most time on speculation surrounding TVs.
“Steve Jobs told his biographer that he finally cracked how to build a TV with a simple
user interface ... The company is working on a television that may be unveiled this
year and released in 2013.”
Soooo software updates, revamped Macs, Apple TV and maybe a new iPhone. Chances of those
rumors all being true? Slim, according to CNN’s Doug Gross, who
calls a new iPhone the longest shot of them all.
“It would be out of character for the company to roll out another one eight months later.
Sorry, folks. Check back this fall.”
But that still leaves all that other stuff, right?
Except that PCMag’s Joel Santo Domingo says — count speculation about integrated Apple
TV out, too. But he does seem pretty sure about iOS 6, and suggests:
“Siri on new iPad is likely, while Siri support for older devices is a 50/50 proposition.”
And this one ISN’T a rumor: Newsy will be represented at WWDC. If you haven’t yet,
download the app for iPhone, iPad, and yes, even Droid, Windows and Blackberry.
