Labour MP Shane Jones says Minister of Finance Bill English
has insulted his home in the Far North
by saying that the people lack aspiration.
He says it's an unfair statement
and that the people of the Far North still dream and want to work hard
for a better future.
A slight on the people of the North.
Don't be insulting
and say things like
we don't have aspirations.
Shane Jones is talking about
a response from Bill English to his policies
for creating jobs in the north.
The issue came up in a Finance Committee meeting.
All the money goes to Hollywood and Fonterra,
but nothing comes to us in the north.
He said it's because we lack drive and aspiration.
But according to the Finance Minister,
if Northland iwi pull themselves together,
it'll be easier to lend aid.
Shane Jones' message to Mr English
is that the govt has forgotten about the rural areas,
and he'll see the result of that
in how the Northland voters vote come Election Day.
