My name is M'Shale Gillroy, I attended Holden High School, it was a smaller school,
as you can imagine, we had 2,510 people, uhm, in the town.
And since I grew up on a farm I was really involved at home with doing different things
so being a part of a sports group or activity was kind of difficult for me at a young age.
Uhm, and whenever I was getting into high school I wanted to become more involved
and that involvement in high school I think really really prepared me
for being, uhm, at school here at MCC-Longview.
As far as time management and, uhm, opportunity and, you know, all of those activities
and trying to balance everything really help you to succeed in school work and everything else.
It-it's really ironic because a few of the classes that I didn't get A's in,
which is something that I strive to do, have been my favorite classes.
So, uh, things like psychology, uhm, that I wasn't exposed to in high school
and, uh, mathematics that I struggled with all through high school I've really enjoyed here.
I had an excellent math teacher, uh, Kristi Rottinghaus when I first started here at Longview
and she really helped me to look at math with a different approach than in high school
and, uhm, she gave me some really good advice about test taking skills and anxiety
that really helped me to excel in math more than I ever had before.
And, of course, I work in the Campus Life and Leadership Office
so across the board all of the Campus Life Directors have been great.
When you see MCC and you see community college
I-I don't think anyone really realizes from high school or just outside in the metro area
that it truly is a community and once you step foot on a campus
and you can get involved and, uh, be in classes
you realize how much of a community it really is.
And, you know, it's not just one campus, you know,
we really are close with all the other campuses
and you really can have interaction with people at those campuses if you choose to.
My name is M'Shale Gillroy and because of MCC I know that I now have the skills and abilities
to be able to reach any of the goals that I will set for myself after completing my degree.
