The William T. White String Quartet won first prize at the West Central Division finals
of the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition in January. The
students will compete as national finalists in New York City in March.
The quartet includes violinist Yajing Zhang, a music student from Missouri State’s China
campus in Qingdao; violinist Xiao Hu, also a music student from Qingdao; cellist Matthew
Price, a pre-law major; and violist Ryan Hardcastle, a viola performance major. Ryan also received
first place in the Young Artist String division and will compete at nationals.
The ensemble works under the musical guidance of faculty members Dr. David Hays, Dr. Amy
Muchnick and Dr. Michael A. Murray. On the court to congratulate the White String Quartet
is Dr. Carey Adams, dean of the College of Arts and Letters. Ladies and gentlemen, please
acknowledge the accomplishments of these students. They are in The BancorpSouth Academic Spotlight.
