My life began the day I set foot on this campus.
My time at UCCS has really been one of the best
experiences of my life.
I never left this campus feeling unfulfilled.
My goodness, when I set foot on the campus of UCCS, I
didn't realize what a ocean of exploring I was able to begin
a life path on.
I felt like I was supposed to be here.
That's what I remember most, my very first day.
It as stuck with me even after all these years.
Going in, I was a first generation college student,
and not really sure of which direction I wanted to go.
And just being at UCCS the campus was just so welcoming.
I think it's really just that tight-knit community.
I think you get different opportunities in your lifetime
to reinvent who you are.
And this was a time of my life where I got to think about
what I really want to do with my life.
I can't count the number of doors that have been opened
because I have a degree from the University of Colorado at
Colorado Springs.
Being someone that has graduated from UCCS has opened
the doors as far as when I talk to other people, it gains
a lot of credibility.
A degree from UCCS offers you a huge degree of opportunity
to go in that open door and to seize what you really want to
garner out of life.
It gives people the willingness to continue to
work with me.
Because they know that I'm from a college and a campus
that has these values and instills these
values in their students.
That I'm meeting people who are as passionate and as
excited about being UCCS alumni as I am.
No matter where I go, I'll still have that connection for
encouragement or support, as well as networking.
The best career advice I could give to a graduating student
is whatever position you find yourself in after graduation,
treat it like it's your dream job.
In order to get to where you want, you have to do the very
best possible job where you are.
Follow your heart, and don't ever, ever, ever give up.
Just keep moving forwards and keep believing you can do it.
Being a mountain lion means pursuing excellence, being a
lifelong learner, and being committed to helping others do
the same thing.
Being a mountain lion is really about being able to
accomplish your objectives.
And that's what my history here at UCCS
certainly started for me.
It will continue to be a part of my life for
the rest of my life.
When I really look back on the college, it's going to be the
times with my friends, going out and having a good time,
and just really making those
connections with all my friends.
When you're my age, you will still remember the great
experiences you had at UCCS.
It's just that kind of place.
