The Secretariat of State of the Council of Ministers organized a workshop for journalists in Timor-Leste.
The theme of the debate in this workshop covered the Code of Ethics for journalists.
Durig the one-day event, the Association of Journalists and professionals with an interest in the area of journalism
participated in the workshop at the International Convention Centre, formerly the Old Market.
The Code of Ethics for journalists in Timor-Leste could become a law regulating journalists' work,
although there were differences in opinion from the Association of Journalists.
In the debate session, the Code of Ethics for journalists in Timor-Leste prompted differences of opinion
from media management and also criticisms from journalists.
In the questions session, journalists took the opportunity to criticize their Association, for not paying attention to them.
Virgilio Guterres, representing the Association of Journalists in Timor-Leste told Timor Today, that during this time,
the AJTL had faced some problems in representing Journalists Timor-Leste.
In addition to this, most journalists were against the Code of Ethics,
because Timor-Leste did not yet have a Code of Practice.
The difficulties faced by the Association of Journalists were because there had not been a meeting
on Press Code of Ethics to regulate the work of journalists in Timor-Leste.
