They are singing "Lord bless South Sudan."
This is the new national anthem for
the soon-to-be newest country in the world.
The United Nations played a vital role
in the process leading to independence.
In Juba, thousands watched
the last rehearsal parade before South Sudan's
official independence celebrations on Saturday.
Student Aken Santo Deng has camped out
at the parade ground for days.
“I can not go home because
we have been waiting for so long,
so many years and we lost many people,
so this day is a very important day for us."
The South Sudanese flag will be officially raised
for the very first time on Saturday
- but for this crowd, the independence
celebrations can't come too soon.
