My name is Philip Doble and I'm the Director of the Elemental Bio-Imaging facility.
Here at the Elemental Bio-Imaging facility, we do both elemental analysis and molecular
mass spectrometry.
We have a fantastic relationship with Agilent Technologies, Agilent Technologies is one
of the premier companies that make chemical analysis equipment and life science analysis
instrumentation.
The relationship with Agilent Technologies started in around 2002 and grew from there
to become a sponsored laboratory in 2007. Agilent supplies us with a lot of the latest
equipment for us to do our research and they provide us with opportunities to interact
with others across the globe and locally in Australia as well.
The Elemental Bio-Imaging facility contains the most comprehensive collection of laser-imaging
systems in the Southern Hemisphere. The most significant equipment that we have in the
laboratory consists of lasers coupled to elemental analysers, and we use these to image biological
specimens.
The users of the Elemental Bio-Imaging facility are essentially students, other academics
at UTS and various researchers around Australia and internationally as well.
The real strength here at UTS with the research we are performing is that it's done in collaboration
with various institutions across the globe. We're working with Sydney University, Macquarie
University, the Howard Florey Institute and Monash University in Melbourne. We're also
working with the Seoul National University Hospital in Korea and the National University
of Singapore, and we're always looking for more collaborative partners.
We believe the future of our collaborative research relationships with Agilent Technologies
and other researchers will go from strength to strength.
