Hi there my name is Dr Matt Kreinheder from Unwind Chiropractic here in Rochester NY and
today I'm sharing some information about back pain. People often think of Chiropractors
for back pain even though we help a wide variety of symptoms and conditions.
Let me tell you a little bit about back pain, why people have it and what you can do for
it. First of all why? It can be from a number of events, you may have had a car accident,
a slip or fall, or injured yourself in some way. It can be from activities, your daily
activities at work if you're lifting, pushing, pulling. All of these things can cause physical
injury to your back. It can also just be from posture. Posture is how we are holding ourself
and it can be the major strain that you deal with day in and day out in terms of your body
system. From my perspective, what I look at most often
is what is the habit in your nervous system? Your nervous system is the master control
system for your entire body. It controls all the muscles, all the bones all the connective
tissue so if its not receiving information well and sharing information well with all
of these parts of the body then the body gets into habits. It holds itself in a certain
way and it moves in a certain way and it can lead to pain it can lead to injury. So if
the habit isn't correct then we need to change that.
So what do I do about it? Well, certainly modify your behaviors, if you know your posture
is poor you can work on that. If you know exercise would be helpful, yoga would be helpful
you need to do that. Even changing diet to eat less inflammatory foods can be incredibly
helpful. What i have seen very typically is that people try these things and often times
it doesn't work. This is because the nervous system habits and patterns have lead to a
really high threshold. The body can only manage so much at a time. So it can't take in all
this new information, it can't take in a new posture and hold itself that way it can't
take in doing yoga safely. Because these patterns of stress and tension and these habits in
the nervous system are at such a high level that they need to come down first. Your body
needs to be able to relax and let go of these old habits these old tension patterns so it
can take in new data and new information. I see this almost universally when I work
with someone who is coming in with back pain and its something I can help people with and
