Toni Hicks, RN: I do what I do because I know that I can make a huge impact in patients’
lives. Like Angie. I can be there for them; to help them achieve
this pregnancy, that some of them have been dreaming about all of their lives.
I do this because I’m a mother, and a grandmother, and I want these babies to be born healthy.
I want them to experience great love.
And I do this because nursing was a calling for me. And I found my perfect niche here
on PSCU thirteen years ago. And I love this job.

And it’s really exciting that the patients oftentimes will come back when the babies
are one, or two or they’ll send us Christmas cards and thank you cards and, you know, thank
you for this life...you know, thank you for my miracle.

And you never know how much you really touch a patient. And I just have to believe that
every day when I give of myself, that I am touching that patient in some significant
way. And I’m going to make their day just a little bit better.
