Western Illinois University hosted its first annual
Go Red for Women's Heart Health Luncheon on Friday February 5th 2010.
The event featured tables with information for participants
about how to keep your heart healthy, what to eat and portion sizes
and resources in the community and on campus.
The food was prepared by students from
the Department of Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality.
The menu included two soups: Southern Succotash and Tomato Basil,
Lime Cumin Cornish Game Hen, Hot Potato Salad,
and for dessert... Fudgy Cheesecake with Cherry Sauce.
All the food was heart healthy and easy to make at home.
Everyone also received a bag of Sweet and Spicy popcorn.
Several students also spoke about the benefits of eating right
Including topics about fat, fiber, sodium, and caffeine.
There were also several raffles including two 10 dollar gift cards to Brown's Shoes
Benefiber donated from Walgreens,
and a 10 punch punchpass for the Spencer Student Recreation Center.
The centerpieces, which were given to the person with the highest playing card taped to the bottom of their seat at each table,
were donated by the Enchanted Forest.
And a special thanks who made this event a success.
