Hello! This is
my Chinese Diary 1.
In my Chinese video,
Chinese Diary
, um this speaking
I will talk more naturally.
I won't purposely go write a script
out.
but if I have used any
words that I think
should be shared
I will make an video to talk about it
Last Friday, I asked my friend
if she were to grade my Mandarin
speaking with a value
How much points will I get?
Of course, before she answered me,
I told her that
highest is 100, lowest is 50.
So, I kind of cheated. (HORNSWOGGLE).
Setting a limit of 50 is because
I don't want to hear a 10.
When she was still thinking of an answer
I thought I should have at least 85.
85 is US's B (in the grading system).
and then,
when she told me
how much she gave me
my heart literally shuttered.
She gave me a 65.
65 (+ Asian sound... ^.^)
If
If counted in US grading system,
it is still 5 short from a C!
In elementary school, 65 is just passing
So I don't know which grading system she
used.
When I heard 65, I really didn't know
how to react.
For a person born in China
even though lived in US many years,
a grade of 65 is just...
Am I really that bad in Mandarin?
Let me talk about her background.
She came from Hubei, China.
She is 21 years old.
This is her first year in US.
So her Mandarin has
20 years of experience.
I guess...
her grade of 65 is pretty accurate...
Maybe she is just a harsh grader.
I want to think that she is harsh
so she gave me such a low grade.
Bleh (whatever). Sometimes
Passing is better than not passing.
And she
when she was giving me the grade
She told me that she is
used
She, she compared my speaking with
standard Mandarin
hence the 65.
65.
I was thinking about making
videos teaching Mandarin.
But now I think about it. 65.
If I was a student,
Will I learn from a 65 teacher?
But then maybe I don't need to be sad
because at least
I can communicate casually.
And also,
usually when you learn Mandarin,
you don't have to be like super good.
A certain level is sufficient.
Unless you want to advance even further
higher field or something. Then,
you need some formal words and what not.
or very standarized writing.
But then maybe I am just
making excuses to comfort myself.
Ok. That is all for this time.
See you next time. Bye bye.
Oh. No "bye bye". See you.
