In this segment, I will give you a few tips on working with talent on a video shoot. Video
shoots can be for broadcast, such as news or a commercial, or non-broadcast, such as
a corporate training program or even a musical. You may be working with professional actors
and singers, corporate presidents, or an employee that has never laid eyes on a teleprompter.
No matter what the situation is, there are some tips that can make your job a lot easier.
You should ask your talent if they've worked with a prompter before. If they're an actor,
than more than likely they've worked with a prompter. And since they've worked with
a prompter, then many of them will have their own preferences like font size, font types,
font colors if you have a colored monitor, and where they want the script to be positioned
on the screen. If the talent has not worked with a prompter, then you as the operator
has the opportunity to give them some suggestions and options. You can talk to them about how
the prompter works. They're usually curious. You can give them the font types, colors and
size choices and text placement on the screen. Explain to them that as the operator, you
will stay with them as they read their script. As an operator, that is one of your main purposes.
If they start, you will start. If they stop, you will stop. You are definitely their friend
on this shoot because you can make them look really good.
