Golf Lessons Lake Forest - Hi, I'm Ryan Trengrove, owner and director of instruction here at Golf Swing Prescription, an indoor golf
training center here in Laguna Hills, California. Today, I'm going to be sharing with you some information
about follow-through. Here I've got one of the books that I have here at the studio called The
Fundamentals of Hogan by David Ledbetter. And in here, on page 96, there's actually a part where he talks
about the follow-through and the release. He says, "Hogan did not want his hands to cross over, as he
demonstrates here. He wanted the feeling of his right hand under his left hand." You can see here how the
palm of his right hand is coming under versus here it's coming over, okay? That's very important because I
see this very often, where players will come in. In baseball or whatever it is, training that they've gotten,
they got in the habit of twisting their hands over. A lot of times it's because- for backswing. Basically, as
we would do on the way through, it's just like throwing a ball underhand. We want to toss the ball at our
target, okay? So, we want to keep the palm of that hand going at our target versus right hand twisting
over. If you feel that you have to twist your hand over to go straight, probably on your way back you're
twisting going back. So on the way back, keep the palm on top- palm of the right hand facing down to the
ground here, right palm on top. Then underneath, on the way through,
that's going to allow you to throw it straight at the target.
Another way to think of this is in terms of the back of your left hand. If I took the back of my left hand and
got it going back with this one at my target like this- you can see the back of my hand going at my target.
This is a great drill to do, if you take only your left hand only- not only to work on your follow-through, and
actually practicing shots with your left hand going straight at your target versus you having to flip your
hand. Because if I try to do that where I flip my hand,
you'll see it's not going to be nearly as consistent, okay?
Golf Lessons Lake Forest Drill - Another drill you can do with your left hand only. Is you can think about- okay, take the back of my left
hand and we're going to go at my target will my body then release with it? What you'll notice, if you do
this correctly, the back of your left hand will be facing back behind you here again versus if I twist
everything, the back of my palm faces back. If you come over here, on the screen there's a couple things
here. Tiger, on the left hand screen, you'll see that he's getting all of his weight going forward. Back of his
left hand here, in fact is facing the target, as you see. And then all his way he keeps the back of the hand at
his target, goes through. On this side over here, you'll see Davis Love, back of his left hand facing back at
us. And if you bring David Hogan up on the screen- back of the hand facing us. Okay, so back of the hand
goes at the target on the way through.
Next time you play, keep the back of your hand at your target. Just like Billy Casper said, that's your
control hand. And, it was good meeting with you this week. If you have questions, please let me know.
